100 hours in Learning Spanish

August 10th, 2023 by Croc

On August 10th, I reached 100 hours of listening to Spanish using Comprehensible Input. So what has changed from the first and last blog? Well, I have become very consistent for the past month and a week! I’ve been doing at least something in Spanish every day. At 50 hours, I started to try to watch a TV show for beginners called “Extra en Español.”

I thought I was having a good time, but really after 50 more hours of listening to other easier material on Dreaming Spanish + Bluey, I got back to listening to that show and everything that was happening was so much clearer! The show isn’t really my usual taste of show (I mostly watch animations over everything else) but it was so nice to be able to understand most of what was being said in the show.

I have mostly been using Dreaming Spanish for listening, but right now at 100 hours I just find everything there so boring now. The videos are actually putting me to sleep! Andrea is my favorite guide, so I figured I would just start to re-watch all of her videos again.

One thing I notice with a lot of other people is that a lot of people on the DreamingSpanish Reddit are obsessed with what their accent will sound like. I thought about it for a while, but then I realized that I don’t really care how my accent turns out. Also with being Autistic, I’ll probably already have an ambiguous accent. If I ever start speaking (which really isn’t that big of a goal) it will most likely be as jumbled as my English (native language) already is (people sometimes say I sound Australian, even though I’m American! Though, it could be because I’ve beening watching this YouTuber every night for the past 4 years). I’m also not going to restrict myself from reading, but I’m also not going to hop right in.
